A recent scientific study was concluded that shift workers deprived of sleep or going to sleep at the wrong time of the day are more vulnerable to type 2 diabetes and obesity.
The results released in Science Translational Medicine showed sugar levels are highly affected due to changes in normal sleep. The study was conducted among 21 people, monitoring their meals and bed times.
Researchers found out more alarming results as some participants have developed early symptoms of diabetes within weeks. Doctors in the US have been trying to study the effect in a more controlled environment.
Researchers stated that results shows that among the people who have a pre diabetic condition, night shift workers are more likely to have type 2 diabetes than days workers.
The team is calling for more measures to reduce the impact of shift working following the results of its study.
